The Mother Dragon.
Boss mechanics, the baby-dragon spawn pattern, and the counter-strategies that work — sourced from CrazyGames, the developer changelog, and player guides.
When the Mother appears Confirmed
The Mother Dragon appears on day 10 and day 20 as the first two boss levels, then every ten days after that — day 30, day 40, and so on, scaling indefinitely with the game. Before the boss round, the game displays an arrow indicating which column the dragon will appear in, giving you the planning phase to position defenses per CrazyGames listing.
The game currently has four distinct Mother Dragons, with the highest tier enabling scores in the 4000s range per towerswap.app/news. Each tier of Mother is stronger and produces more baby dragons on death.
The baby-dragon mechanic Confirmed
When you kill a Mother Dragon, she releases a large number of smaller dragons per CrazyGames listing. The babies are a separate threat: they may spawn in adjacent columns, not just the column the Mother was in per itch.io community. This means a defense focused entirely on the Mother’s lane can be overrun after the kill.
By stage 5 of the game, the Mother spawns more than 30 attackers per Johnny’s Classics. Late-game boss management is largely about preparing for the baby wave rather than the Mother herself.
The counter-strategy Player-reported
The community-consensus pattern, repeated across multiple guides:
- Ice walls in line with firepower. Move your towers, cannons, and ballistae so they share a column with one or more ice walls. The wall slows the Mother briefly, and your damage units pound her during that window per itch.io community.
- Prepare for adjacent-column babies. Do not concentrate all defenses in one column. Leave usable damage in the columns immediately next to the boss column.
- Save your TNT and special items. The big dragons on day 10 and day 20 are exactly what these were made for per tdgames.io guide.
- Use a silver chest the day before. A silver chest gives 70 free swaps — enough to add several layers of defense in the round before the boss arrives. Watching for chest readiness around day 9 and day 19 is one of the most-recommended pacing strategies per Johnny’s Classics.
- Bronze chest as emergency fuel. If you cannot complete a silver chest in time, opening a bronze chest (12 free swaps) is the standard sacrifice to make sure the Mother does not break through per Johnny’s Classics.
Alternative: tank with castle hearts Player-reported
There is a non-obvious tactic where you do not try to stop the Mother — you just absorb her attack with the castle’s health. The trick is to build up castle hearts to near the maximum (30) beforehand and let the boss connect. This works best in stages 2 through 4; by stage 5, the Mother spawns enough babies that the castle cannot survive even one breach per Johnny’s Classics.
Hearts are added by pushing raw stone resources from the top row into the castle (one stone = one heart). This is also how you maintain hearts during normal play.
Special case: Cannons Castle Player-reported
On Cannons Castle, the boss-handling strategy is entirely different. Because the layout favors row-clear weapons, players concentrate gold-tier cannons on the boss column and ignore the wall-and-slow pattern that works on the standard castle. The result: extremely high scores (4000s and 5000s) become possible per towerswap.app/news.
